President & Chief Executive Officer
Chris Tointon has served as president and chief executive officer of the YMCA in Greater Omaha since 2016. He leads a team of more than 1,500 employees that strengthens community at 12 branches throughout Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska. He began his career in recreation and social services at the age of 12 when he became the leader of his local parks and recreation department’s t-ball program. Soon after, Tointon found the Y in Lindenhurst, Illinois, as a summer camp counselor and then grew his professional Y career from program director to branch executive director at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago. After 13 years with the Y, Tointon was recruited to lead an innovative nonprofit in Central Michigan. His love of the mission and passion to strengthen communities drew him back to the Y. In addition to his current CEO role, Tointon volunteers in the movement as chairman of the Prairie Alliance of YMCAs supporting Ys in North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, is a board member of the Nebraska State Alliance of YMCA CEOs and is an executive member of the Mid-Major YMCA group. Recently, he joined YUSA’s Strategic Innovation Advisory Council due to his creative solutions to community challenges. Tointon also is a member of the Millard Public Schools Superintendent’s Business Advisory Council, CHI Lakeside Hospital Board, treasurer of Sarpy County Girls Lacrosse, and member of the Cornhusker Bank Omaha Advisory Board. He also serves as a project advisor for the First Responders Foundation and is a proud member of the Omaha Downtown Rotary Club. Tointon has a bachelor’s degree from North Central College and a non-profit best practices management certificate from Saginaw Valley State University. He has won numerous awards for nonprofit management, fundraising and establishing an employer of choice.
